The Power of Listening: Enhancing Student Success through Active Listening Techniques

In any culture as well as in different civilizations across the globe, the capacity to listen meticulously was regarded as significant. It was a treasured skill, as data and information were given orally starting with one age and then onto the next. In any case, undivided attention isn't just about procuring data. Truth be told, it is basic for participating in significant two-manner correspondence, which incorporates getting and assessing data, both said and implied.

There are many reasons why our students are not active listeners or active contributors. Their lack of involvement may lead to poor academic performance. At Manchester International School, the premium school in the city of Coimbatore that is also known as the Manchester of the South, our Students’ Wellness Department in collaboration with the parents and other programme coordinators conducted a study on this and concluded with some tips that improving a student's listening skills can provide them with many benefits in their academic life. It was noted that enhancing their listening comprehension can help them be more attentive in class, better understand the material being taught, and be more effective in their studies.

Following are the techniques that we employ at Manchester International School to improve our student's listening skills, such as:

• Pay Attention to What is Being Said: Making sure that students focus all of their attention on the instructor speaking and by also avoiding all possible distractions.

• Take Notes: We insist that students take notes to help them to better understand, remember and make use of what is being taught.

• Ask Questions: Each child is encouraged and motivated to ask clarifying questions to make sure that they understand the full context of the material.

• Paraphrase: The technique of Paraphrasing is also taught to help them reinforce their understanding by summarizing what has been said.

By focusing on these techniques, our students are trained to be active listeners allowing them to more effectively capture the lessons being taught. This also helps them become more confident in their studies and ultimately, boosts their performance.
