Exploring Sustainability in Agriculture
The IB PYP5 students of Manchester International School visited Agaram Iyarkai Velan Pannai on the 24th of February, 2024. Led by Mr. Thangavel, an experienced farmer, the students actively engaged in various activities such as sowing seeds and irrigating the plot, immersing themselves in the practical aspects of farming.
During the trip, Mr. Thangavel provided valuable insights into the intricacies of agriculture, emphasizing the importance of using natural fertilizers and eco-friendly pest control methods. He elucidated the growth cycle of plants and demonstrated how garlic, green chilli, and ginger can be effectively utilized to deter pests without harming the environment.
The highlight of the excursion was a lively question and answer session, where students eagerly posed queries to Mr. Thangavel, seeking to unravel the complexities of sustainable farming and the inequalities prevalent in the agricultural sector. His guidance on plant care and management proved invaluable, empowering the students with practical knowledge that they can apply in their own lives.
